Atlas of Urban AI

The Global Observatory of Urban Artificial Intelligence needed to bring together AI initiatives launched by cities all over the world in one place.

The challenge was to turn a large and varied repository into a useful tool for researchers, policymakers and anyone who wants to understand how cities are building these systems into their services.

We built an interactive atlas for exploring initiatives on a world map or in a list. You can filter by principles and categories, see the initiatives in each city and open their details without leaving the main navigation.

The atlas also includes background data on each city, and it works the same way on desktop and on mobile.

Laravel structures and manages the data repository on the back-end, and Svelte handles the most interactive parts on the front-end.

With this split, filters, the map, lists and panels respond instantly, and the data stays organised and ready for new cities and initiatives.
